How you may be experiencing depression

As an adult, you may be struggling with some of the following thoughts, feelings and behaviors:

Depression Therapy Los Altos
  • I’m always feeling down. I can’t get out of bed to go to work
  • I don’t feel like doing anything around the house anymore, like cooking or cleaning.
  • Friends don’t really understand what I’m going through, so I don’t talk with them much anymore
  • I feel stuck in my job and in my family. Is my life really going anywhere? I’m tired of going through the motions.
  • I keep making mistakes. I’m failing at everything. I’ll never amount to anything.
  • I shouldn’t feel this way. There are so many other people that have it way worse than me.

These thoughts, feelings and behaviors are signs of depression and often lead to a downward spiral. You may constantly judge yourself for every negative thing that happens to you and people may be telling you to think more positively and be grateful for what you do have. As you withdraw more from people and from regular life activities, you may begin to feel hopeless about your life and even contemplate suicide.

How Depression Therapy may be helpful

Depression Counseling Cupertino
  • Exploring life events and situations that may have led to you feeling depressed.
  • Understanding how our ways of thinking and behaving can contribute to and maintain our depressed mood. Often when we feel depressed, our thoughts tend to be skewed to the negative and may not reflect what is really true. These negative ways that we see the world and see ourselves often keep us down.
  • Shifting your ways of thinking and being to be more in line with what is true about you and the world, and as you do this, your mood and motivation for life will likely improve.
  • Identifying what is important to you, what brings you meaning, and what brings you joy, and finding ways to engage in these things.
  • Acknowledging your negative thinking, but not allowing it to control you, so you can engage in activities that are meaningful to you.
